Google Nexus 7 Vs Apple iPad Mini

With the mega success of Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7 tablets Apple is not going to settle down with only high-end market. It too needs to grab the market share of affordable tablet crowd.

iPad Mini is the perfect answer to this for the iDevice giant. The iPad Mini is believed to be around 7-inch and it would be competitively priced to tap potential tablet customers who are looking for budget tablet.

Let us find out in this article what is the difference and similarities between Google’s Nexus 7 and Apple’s iPad Mini.

Portable by Design

Google Nexus 7 got IPS LCD display and offers a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels that translates into a 216 PPI (Pixels Per Inch) density. This is not the level of Retina Display as we have seen in New iPad but it is surely ahead of other 7 incher tablets including Amazon’s Kindle Fire.
The Apple iPad Mini is assumed to have IPS+ LCD display but without Retina quality as we have seen in the New iPad aka iPad 3. Chinese sources meanwhile claimed iPad Mini to employ IGZO displays made by Sharp that will be capable to offer 330 PPI quality. Specifications and features in detail are still awaited from Apple about iPad Mini.

Hardware

Google Nexus 7 is hard to beat on hardware front in budget tablets. It has got Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC (1.3 GHz quad-core A9 CPU and 12-core Nvidia ULP GPU). It is equipped with 1GB of RAM.
For Apple’s iPad Mini it is indicated that it will be equipped with 1 GHz dual-core A5 processor that is also found in iPad 2. As 1GB of RAM is the industry standard in all the tablets these days so it is assumed iPad Mini to have at least 1GB of RAM. It can be more but not less than this.

OS

Google Nexus 7 comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, which is the latest from the house of Google.
iPad Mini is expected to run on latest iOS version of Apple that is supposed to be iOS 6, which will be released together with iPad Mini, as expected.

September Release Date?

Is it possible that the Apple iPad Mini is just weeks away from launch? Rumours circulating the blogosphere suggest that the tiny tablet could be synched with an Apple iPhone 5 September release date. Guaranteed to run on the latest iOS 6, Apple’s miniscule iDevice won’t be released until the latest software updates are officially launched in the autumn.

We’re pretty sure Santa will be busy filling stockings with iPad Minis this Christmas. Affordable tablets make great gifts without the need for mobile contract commitment and the last thing Apple want is the Google Nexus 7 eating up all their tablet market share. We expect the iPad mini to be announced mid-September to late October on the same day as the Apple iPhone 5.

Price – cheapest iPad ever!

With a 16GB Google Nexus 7 available for under £200, can Apple afford to keep their prices high? Should Apple release an 8GB iPad Mini we believe it will cost around the £179 price point. This may be £20 more expensive than the 8GB Google Nexus 7 but we believe Apple have the brand image and reputation to justify a higher cost. Anything price tagged under £200 is less than half the price of any iPad release, making the Apple iPad Mini more accessible to the masses.
Though there’s little money to be made in the initial tablet sale, Apple would reap in the real profits from the Mini as customers browse and download from their dedicated App Store.
Apple have a great opportunity to challenge the Google Nexus 7 tablet should they release an affordable Apple iPad Mini, let’s see what happens over the forthcoming months.
